As the story goes, you were a space marine captured in battle and sent to toil in the mines. Of course, with your newly-gained skills in explosives, you decide to make your escape through a variety of guard-filled levels. Dynamite Jack is a stealth-action puzzle game in which you avoid trigger-happy guards and seek an exit. As the levels progress, you’ll be introduced to a variety of new gameplay wrinkles, such as key cards and lasers. You have a flashlight at hand to help you in the darkness, but if a guard catches sight of it, you’re kaput. You can goad guards into falling into one of your bomb traps, but dispatching them removes your pacifism achievement for that level. The game encourages multiple play throughs of each level for time, not killing guards, and finding computer chip collectibles hidden throughout each level. While the characters themselves leave a little to be desired, the art direction is solid through out and as you see above, the mine-able areas are eerily reminiscent of Yoshi’s Island. That’s not a bad thing.
